GOLF FITNESS DALLAS TX WITH CHRIS OWNBEY ON POWER TRAINING FOR GOLF OVER 50
As we age, muscle power declines faster than muscle strength. Let me say that again. “As we age, muscle power declines faster than muscle strength”
That’s very interesting because all I have ever read about what to do as I get older is how as we age we should be walking more.
That could not be further from the truth.
The facts: SARCOPENIA The loss of muscle tissue, fast-twitch fibers have an impact on the muscle’s ability to generate the necessary force for specific tasks (like swinging a golf club). Power has more of an effect on functional ability than strength. Power training will help maximize function and prevent disability in aging adults.
So, If you are pushing 50. I just turned 51. and want to continue to do the things you NEED to do, LIKE to do, and WANT to do, and enjoy doing them, then it’s imperative to follow a well-planned exercise program that includes resistance strength and power training.
My fit over 50 clients strive to maintain and improve upon the performance they achieved at younger ages. Every day, I see these guys and gals accomplish amazing things.
You do not train at 50 as we did at 25. And you do not train for power the same either. We need to be smart about it.
You should not be leaving the ground doing box jumps or explosive plyometric movements.
We are heading into our Winter Training Power phase. We have two spots open for people over 40 and 4 spots open for the Jr. golfer.
